Emergency and Critical Care Residency Opportunity

 

Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists is offering the unique opportunity of a 3.5-year emergency and critical care residency scheduled to start July 1, 2018. Ideal candidates are highly motivated individuals with exceptional skills in communication, collaboration, and leadership.

The residency is a standardized program, approved by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) since 1991, preparing individuals for submission of credentials for the ACVECC board certification examination. The large caseload offers many opportunities for the resident to gain surgical experience as a primary surgeon (with supervision) for emergency patients. The ACVECC faculty supervisors are on site to provide supervision and guidance on a daily basis. The resident will gain intensive experience in emergency stabilization and diagnostic procedures, medical and surgical definitive care of the critical patient, critical care monitoring, and nutritional support. The training experience also includes time off for specialty rotations to meet ACVECC credential requirements.

Supervising faculty provide over 46 years of combined experience in the specialty of emergency and critical care medicine.   Our practice includes board certified specialists in emergency and critical care (3), surgery (5), internal medicine (3), oncology (2), dentistry (1), dermatology (1), neurology (1), in addition to individuals who are residency-trained in emergency and critical care. We also have skilled staff members certified in rehabilitation and acupuncture. July 2018, individuals who are residency trained in ophthalmology (2), cardiology (1), and dermatology (1), in addition to an anesthesiologist, will be joining our team of specialists. Off-site consulting staff includes a radiologist and an ophthalmologist. Members of our team include certified VTS (ECC) (Anesthesia) technicians and additional highly skilled technical staff.  The faculty members enjoy teaching and will devote considerable time to the house staff seminar series. Daily clinical rounds, faculty presentations, house staff presentations, journal club discussions, resident projects, and discussions pertaining to client relations and business practice management and are integral parts of this learning experience,

The hospital is fully equipped with Eklin digital radiography, ultrasound, CT, MRI, therapeutic and anesthetic ventilators, endoscopy (flexible and rigid), stereotactic radiosurgery, tracheal and urethral stenting, GE logiq S7 ultrasound, ligasure vessel sealing system, integrated PACS system, hydrotherapy, shockwave and laser therapy, complete in-house integrated laboratory as well as comprehensive patient monitoring systems. We are supported by referring veterinarians who are committed to a team approach to veterinary medicine.

Benefits:

Our benefits include health, dental, life, and vision insurance the first of the month following 60 days of employment, PTO, CE stipend, uniforms, licensure and dues. Eligibility to receive up to a $200 stipend to cover the cost of health insurance during the 60 day waiting period. In order to receive this stipend, proof of payment must be submitted to management. Lakeshore cannot provide this stipend to individuals receiving coverage from a spouse's plan.  

Requirements:

Ideal candidates are highly motivated individuals with exceptional skills in communication, collaboration, and leadership. Small animal internship or equivalent is required; applicant must enjoy working with critically ill animals and be committed to a team effort in a busy setting. Any previous work experience within a small animal emergency environment can be of advantage and should be elaborated upon. - US and WI State license are required - DEA license is required and can be obtained once employment begins.

  • Rotations in ER receiving and hospitalized case management to include days, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Wisconsin state licensure is required. 
  • The applicant should have a small animal internship or its equivalent. Any previous work experience within a small animal emergency environment can be of advantage and should be elaborated upon in the application information. We encourage a visit to the hospital for an interview.
