ER/CC Internship Program


Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists is offering the unique opportunity of a 12.5 month focused internship in emergency and critical care scheduled to start July 1, 2019. The large case load offers many opportunities for the intern to gain intensive experience in emergency stabilization and diagnostic procedures, medical and surgical definitive care of the critical patient, critical care monitoring, and nutritional support. 


Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists is a 24 hour independently-owned specialty practice with three locations in Southeastern Wisconsin that is looking for a board-certified or residency-trained Criticalist to join our criticalist team. Ideal candidates are motivated to help build our emergency/critical care service in our rapidly growing location!  


Lakeshore is home to multiple Board Certified Specialists in Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Oncology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology and Dentistry. Our team also includes a Residency Trained Cardiologist and Certified Physical Rehabilitation veterinarian. We have the only Veterinary Social Work Program in Wisconsin to assist with client and employee concerns. .


Our criticalists share in case oversight and some primary receiving, along with a team of dedicated and experienced emergency clinicians.  Ultrasound and endoscopy are performed regularly by our critical care team, and soft tissue surgeries can be performed if the candidate has interest. We host regular CE events for our referring community, and we also support active in-hospital education.  Our Glendale location holds weekly grand rounds, including journal club, morbidity & mortality rounds, and organized lectures and wet labs.

Our Facility:

At each location we have in house laboratory capabilities including IDexx CBC, chemistry, blood gas, Sedivue, coagulation, blood type and cross match with in-house blood products and blood donor program, digital x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, and well -quipped surgery sites. In our Glendale location we have TEG, CT, MRI, mechanical ventilation and a linear accelerator for SRS/SRT. We have started construction on a new hospital location in our Oak Creek location.

  • Wisconsin veterinary licensure is required
  • Diplomat of the American College of Emergency and Critical Care is preferred
  • The applicant must enjoy working with emergent cases, be committed to a team effort, and handle stress of emergency and critical care medicine.
