Technical Supervisor

 

As a member of Lakeshore’s leadership team, the Technical Supervisor is a champion of Lakeshore’s culture and a role model of Lakeshore’s values, upholds best practices, and provides leadership to technicians and technical assistants.  The Technical Supervisor operates out of the hospital they oversee, holding regularly scheduled hours including all possible shifts (days/hours), but may be required to attend meetings at other locations as needed. The Technical Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership and ensures that the hospital runs safely, efficiently, effectively and fosters an engaging environment. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

While under the supervision of the Hospital Manager, the technical supervisor must be able to effectively and accurately perform the following duties that include but are not limited to:

 

Leadership

  • Fosters a positive and empowering work environment that upholds Lakeshore Core Values.
  • Monitors and ensures the performance by the technical staff of the Mission and Values and adherence to hospital policies.
  • Consistently recognizes team members for a job well done, identifies creative ways to engage and retain staff, encourages staff toward self-development and education, celebrates employee milestones and reports to the Hospital Manager staff members that should be recognized.
  • Takes call-outs and helps to identify replacement coverage as needed. In collaboration with the Hospital Manager reviews PTO requests.
  • Creates/facilities the monthly technical schedules and partners with the Hospital Manager to adjust staff schedules in order to utilize employee skillset most efficiently, meeting the needs of the hospital, reducing overtime and allowing staff to meet personal needs whenever possible.
  • Operates as the immediate contact person for the technical staff and assists in answering any technical questions they may have.
  • In collaboration with the Training Coordinators, assists with employee training by utilizing subject matter experts and/or directly facilitating technical training topics when appropriate.
  • Participates in interviewing technical team candidates by way of coordinating and facilitating realistic job previews.
  • In collaboration with the Hospital Manager, participates in the facilitation of regular employee check-ins, quarterly goal meetings and the annual performance evaluations.
  • Participates in regular check-in meetings with the Hospital Manager, Training Coordinators, and CCS Supervisor to provide input on employee developments. 
  • In collaboration with the Hospital Manager, participates and/or facilitates performance correction meetings and employee disputes for the technical team.
  • Creates the agenda and facilitates the monthly technical support team meetings.
  • In collaboration with the Hospital Manager, identifies technical staff members to committees.
  • Provides input on new products and equipment and impact on patient care to the Inventory & Equipment Manager and Hospital Manager.
  • Audits policies and procedures, performs quality assurance activities and provides communication to the Hospital Manager regarding recommendations for changes, corrections and/or implementations.

 

Hospital Floor Coordination

  • Is a regular floor presence in the hospital; attends rounds and facilitates huddles.
  • Provides guidance and on shift support to the doctors and technical staff in areas of workflow.  Confirms that tasks are delegated appropriately and procedures and treatments are prioritized.
  • Ensures the technical team members adhere to providing the highest level of customer service and actively fosters the Ultimate Client Experience. 

 

Hospital Administration

  • Actively participates in Lakeshore meetings and hospital committees, as applicable. 
  • In collaboration with Medical Director, reviews treatment sheets and medical records to ensure standard of care is met by technical staff, reports deficiencies in these areas to the Hospital Manager.
  • Ensures that there is an accurate census and recording (according to DEA requirements) of all controlled drugs used.
  • Promotes and ensures the technical staff adherence to OSHA policies and regulation.
  • Semimonthly, reviews and approves technical team timesheets for payroll processing purposes.
Requirements

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience

  • At least one year of experience in a supervisory position is preferred
  • Recent experience at a veterinary hospital is preferred, but not required

 

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Formal Veterinary Technology education or postsecondary education a plus

 

Skills

  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of Word Processing software. It will also be necessary to become proficient in the use of the practice management software called (ImproMed Infinity) and to perform clerical work with speed and accuracy.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication and proficient at greeting clients graciously. Maintain a harmonious and cooperative relationship with those contacted in the course of a day.
  • Confidentiality: With access to proprietary and other confidential information, must be highly trustworthy and able to handle confidential records and bank deposits.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to analyze and resolve problems.  Must be organized, detailed and able to prioritize tasks in a fast paced environment. 
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, an employee is frequently required to stand for long periods; move quickly throughout the hospital; handle delicate instruments and supplies, visualize subtle color differences, verbally communicate with clients and coworkers, and hear audible alarms, heart, and lung sounds. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fractious animals. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
